ABOUT Mr. MARSHALL

Prior to becoming a secondary school teacher and during my years as a post-secondary student, I worked at a variety of research institutions, including the York Observatory, the Queen's University Astronomy Research Group, Chalk River Laboratory, and Defense Research Establishment Valcartier. While working at these institutions I was involved with a variety of projects ranging from variable star and globular cluster system studies, materials engineering, and computer modeling.

I was also deeply involved in the public outreach programs at the York and Queen's observatories, guiding tours and discussing various astronomical topics with members of the public.

I earned my undergraduate degree at York University where I majored in physics, specializing in astronomy. I earned my bachelor of education from Trent University.

I am a qualified intermediate/senior mathematics and science (physics) teacher.

At SLIS I have been involved as a staff supervisor/coach in many types of extra-curricular activities, including but not limited to:

  • Stage/Tech Crew
  • SLIS Bear Pawpaganda Radio
  • School Reach Team

I am a member of the United Counties Science Fair Committee, serving as Vice-Chair and Facilities Coordinator. I have also chaperoned our regions Finalists to the Canada Wide Science Fairs in Vancouver, BC (2005), Sanguaney, QC (2006), Truro, NS (2007) and Ottawa, ON (2008).
